Stella 10000 SW
Mike Creighton:
I suppose you guys get tired of helping newbies out, but here goes. I am buying my first GT outfit and it will be an all rounder. I am not big, 5'5" and 75 kgs, so being realistic I am not going to be able to throw a heavy outfit all day. I am looking at the Stella SW 10000 and an upgrade with a twinpower 12000 spool. The reasons for this are the weight and using the reel to double as a surf reel on a Daiwa 13'6" Emblem Pro.
I guess I have three questions. 1. will the 10000 be tough enough. 2. will the 12000 spool be big enough 270m of PE 6. And 3. would you recommend using the 10000 of the beach Fraser North Staddie etc.
cheers Mike
Mark Harris:
Hi Mike and welcome. No doubt at all that the Stella SW 10000 will be tough enough.
I am not sure about putting a Twinpower 12000 spool on though. Apart from anything else you are downgrading the capabilities of the Stella. Don't get me wrong, the Twinpower spools and drag are excellent, but the Stellas are better.
Also, a Shimano 12000 spool will barely hold enough PE8, although it will be OK for PE6. I am not sure you really want to be GT fishing with PE6, although I know nothing about the location you mention.
Instead I would recommend looking for a Studio Ocean Mark No Limits 16000 spool and keep the factory 10000 spool for PE6 fishing. The SOM No Limits spool seems to be the ultimate upgrade for a Stella 10000, and it will hold up to 260 metres of PE8.
I should also add that I do most of my GT Fishing with either a Dogfight, Stella 18000 or a Twin Power 10000 fitted with that SOM No Limits spool. So others will know way more about the Stella SW 1000 than I do.
I hope that helps a little bit.
Mark Gwynne:
I'm guessing you will use the Stella spool for the GT side and the 12000 Twinpower spool for the beach part? If so I can't see the need for PE6 on the twinpower spool. PE 3, 4 or 5 at most should be plenty.
I just fitted 300 yards of 80lb Berkely Whiplash to my Stella 10000 as a reference.
I agree with the previous post on the twinpower spool though. Either just buy the twinpower reel itself or get the stella spool upgrade. There is also a 12000 Yumeya spool you could get.
Cheers, Mark.
Chris Webster:
Mate if you need a 10000 SW i am selling one. Will do you a good price. PM me if you are interested.
Chris
Mike Creighton:
Thanks very much for that. If I go the 10000 will definitely use a Stella spool. I mistakenly thought the twin power used the same drag system. I want to use the larger spool for Gts because of the extra line capacity for PE 8. First trip will hopefully be with Nomad. Do you know where I would find a SOM 16000 spool?
cheers Mike
