quick question about stella fa capacities
September 25, 2010, 01:07:50 PM
hey guys, i have stella fa 8000, 10000, and 16000 spools. and i have some ygk x8 jigman braid in the pe4, 5 and 6.

will i be able to fit the full spool (300m) on each of those spools? i.e pe 4 for 8000, pe 5 for 10000, and pe 6 for 16000, i think I'm spot on with the 8000 and 16000 spools but will the 10000 spool be able to fit more pe 5 on it?

Thanks

The 10000 spool ought to take about 370 metres of PE5 without problem.

Gavin, I run a 2 x 10000 spools with YGK PE5 castman - I've filled the two spools with the stuff and both 300m still had line left on them!  I reckon they probably took about 280 m.  I'm sure people will say you can jamb the full 300 on there and then some, but I'd rather be casting during a hot bite than huddled in the corner of the boat trying to untangle a wind not due to an over filled spool.

If, you are just looking to jig, and take the time to get the line lay even, I'm sure you will be happy with the full 300m spool.  PS my spools have about 8 - 10m of 50lb mono layed first against the arbor.  Hope this helps.

If you really need max capacity, forget the mono wraps and use a little bit of tape where you start the knot. Mono only really helps stop the braid from spinning around on the spool, because it has no stretch and may not grip the spool at the start.

Sorry Gavin, just noticed you were referring to 10000 fa, my comments related to 10000 SW - you should have heaps of capacity on the fa spool!  My mistake.
