Me and a few mates have blown up a couple of certates in the last 6 months, not enjoyable for died in the wool daiwa fans. If it were me, I'd now go the stella. I've got 4 daiwas in the 2500 size, been using them for years, no troubles. 2 x 3500s burried in last 18 months.
You are right with the retreive though, the 3500 makes a great soft plastics reel but is too slow for high speed metals and jigging! the 5000sw is great for metals and small poppers -but a bit whacky for plastics. I seemed to have settled now on the low speed shimano (you can get a twinpower PG) and run it with the 6000 spool - delivers almost the best of both worlds. The speed on the HG 5000 is good for jigging, but there is not realy enough leverage in the whole setup, it feels like the handle is too short!
Hope that helps!
