Casting gloves

Can anyone recommend a glove brand for people with very large hands? My hands are wide as well as long and I am having some trouble finding any pairs that fit.

My last try was a pair of Fisherman gloves in size 3L (now in the for sale section!) which I was told is their largest.

My hands measure 31cm around the widest point (base of thumb) and the bottom of palm to the end of the middle finger is 22cm, any ideas?

Sadly Ben, the expensive Japanese branded gloves tend to be remarkably small, even in the so-called large sizes.

You will have more success by looking at the lower end of the spectrum or by using gloves intended for another purpose and which are made for "caucasian-sized" hands. Gym/weight training gloves are a possibility, as are various workshop gloves that you would find at any hardware store.

That would also save you a lot of dollars. We all spend silly amounts on specialist branded high-end gloves (me included), which is probably not at all necessary .

If you do want to stay with Japanese branded gloves, I am not sure you will find any larger than the Fisherman 3L which were too small for you.

Yes, as what Mark has said. You'll probably have to look for gloves made for other purposes.

One of the alternatives that I've found to be suitable for popping is made by Fox Gloves - Incline.
Its been tough wearing from the leather palms yet cool due to the mesh back. And if you do break out a sweat from popping, you simply use the terry cloth bits on the back of the thumbs to wipe off   ... But what is interesting about it is the silicon fingertips - Particularly handy when holding the line on the index finger when casting.

G'day Ben,

I was put onto a cheapish brand of gloves by Stephen Polzin (member of this site), called "Medalist". They are available through BCF, well that's where I got mine, and while my mits are probably not quite as large as yours, these gloves fit me easily with room to spare, and provide good protection for all types of heavy popper casting, fish handling etc.

They are also pretty ugly (bright orange), but if functionality is your only concern, then they might be worth a look.

I have located a pair of the FOX gloves in XXL in Brisbane so I will have a look, hopefully they fit otherwise I will be scouring all the BCF's in QLD for an XXL+ sized Medalist.

Shimano, Daiwa and a few other brands have decent finger guards which I use for casting practice. They should fit your hands or will with some minor self modifications. Fisherman makes a "XLA" size, which is the largest they have. Is that what you tried?

Fox Incline gloves are also really nice gloves for fishing (affordable too!). Some of my Incline gloves have been with me since 2002 and they are still in pretty good shape. To be honest they last longer than many premium fishing gloves out there that cost 2-3 times more!

Thanks for all the replies, just how tight should a good fitting pair of gloves be? Should they be skin tight like a golf glove or have a little bit more room to move in them?

ANother vote for inclines... I'm HARD on gloves, and my pair have been with me for 3 years now...

Ben I like my gloves as tight as possible without being constrictuing of course.... I like them to fit like a second skin and be lightweight... I don't like the heavy weight gloves that some brands offer...

I have a pair of Pelagic gloves I use for wire work and grabbing fish if needs be, and other types of fishing, but for jigging and casting, I prefer as light as possible, with a good fit...

Sounds like a great recommendation on the Fox Inclines. I will look at those myself.

I go through premium gloves far too quickly for the daft money they cost.  Currently have Smith, Fisherman and Zenaq gloves all in various stages of falling to pieces.

I just ordered a large pair of fisherman gloves, am thinking now they might be to small. Would anyone know how the sizes compare to the captiva gloves?

I have pretty large hands for an Asian and brands like Palms, Saurus, Smith, Zenaq doesn't make gloves large enough for me but Fisherman's XLA fits me well. You should be fine with them.

Unfortunatly i was blessed with pretty large hands, for a gorilla! Like a bunch of QLD banana's!

I have friends who use diving gloves , they are hot but they drilled holes to get ventilation , they work well for popping n jigging .
