Been 3 times. Only once could we fish the area where the GT's are on the South end of the reef beacuase of the big ocean swells. Landed only one trev, bluefin I think. Mike Tekotia on Black Pearl and Jason on Foxylady are the guys and really good. Last year the fun was mahimahi on live baits on soft bait rods.

I fished there a few years back.
if you can't get outside the reef there is some great flats fishing inside the lagoon.
Loads of bluefin trevally ( and a couple of very small GT's ) around the bommies and reef passes. As well as HUGE bonefish on the flats.
I fished with Butch Leone and had a blast.
I strongly suggest you take some light spin gear or fly tackle.
Where abouts are you staying?

Cheers
Bob

We aren't going till next year. Will be staying at Ranginui's Retreat, Aitutaki. Suggest by Butch mainly flyfishing for Bonefish but looking to catch Travelly on poppers. Hence the post getting as much info as possable. Its a long way to go from the Uk only to find that we should have taken another rod.
