Anymore news on a release date for the 80/35r? The video of kenji konishi and the ytk is awesome! This rod looks like it definitely falls into the need to have category!

Hi Jeff,

I think both rods should be fine for your purpose depending on where you fish and maybe the choice between whether you will need stronger drag or sometime use smaller or larger lures off your lure weight range.

I'm personally thinking to get 84/25R-PM because we occasionally get some large fish on light tackle where we fish and I also like the ability to cast small lures like 20-30g so that I can bring it for LT tuna or something.

Sorry Jeff. Rod hasn't been tested in GT field and I can't answer. All I can say is it will probably have better chance than 84/18...

Jeff, just adding a bit to what Tak has written.....

The two rods you are looking at essentially cover PE4-6 but I would suggest you're looking on the lighter end of that scale, particularly with the 84/18. If you're thinking of loading up with PE6 and you want to go hard against a fish, I personally think you better bring the 80/35 into the equation. Carpenter have the 80/35 marked as PE5-8. I suggest that it is an ideal PE6 kind of rod.

 I note you mentioned fish up to 25kgs. A 25kg YTK is an awesome beast already. Even on a 83/40 on PE8, a fish of that size is going to be a challenge, particularly in the environment these things live. In terms of the rod's ability to handle GTs of the size you mention, I will emphasise that they were not made for GTs. It's a little scary for Tak to contemplate people going out there, loading up a 84/25 with PE6 and going hard on GTs

The kind of environment you are chasing the fish in has a lot to do with the rod choice. If you are lucky enough to get kings chasing bait on deeper shoals, then you may be able to fish relatively light gear on 10-20kg kings. On the other hand if you are casting to shallow bommies and ledges, then quite heavy tackle is going to needed even for relatively small fish.
Over the last few weeks I have had plenty of stories of anglers in SE QLD casting PE3-4 around washes on the headlands being smoked on sub 10kg kings and trevallies, simply because the fish were too deep in cover. Not far from there on a deeper reef I have witnessed a 40kg GT being captured on PE3. These are pretty extreme examples, but it really comes down to matching the gear to the terrain.

BLC 80/35R-PM SC is scheduled for delivery in early 2013 at his stage. 80/40 (BLC isn't it you are asking?) is still under testing.

BLC 80/35R-Power Max Super Cobra is finally available in Australia now.

3 piece model - BLC 83/35R-PM is now also available.

BLC 84/25R-PM SC will be coming in near future. (hoping them to come in this quarter)

May I know comparing between the 84/22 and the new 86/25, which has a more power butt. The new 86/25 don't seems to have any (R Power I) or (Power) Max written on it.
Other than the 2", what are the significant different between the 2 rods.

Hi James,

Obviously BLC 86/25 has more power on butt section compare to BLC 84/22R-P1. BLC 86/25 has probably similar bending curve to BLC 84/18 if you have seen it before and BLC 84/22R-P1 has softer tip and middle action compare to those two rods.
