A little advise please - Rod Choice
November 19, 2007, 10:48:08 PM
Hi,

I have never really used poppers before and I will be fishing some reefs and flats with them this december, poppers no bigger than 12cm and prob not targeting fish bigger than 8kg. I need to get a rod and wanted some advice from some ppl in the know. I also want a decent rod that can be used for general spinng/plastics and metal profiles.

I have found 2 pretty much in my price range and wondered if anyone had any comments?

The 7'6" Snapper Raider

The second is the Yad Toledo 9"

I am not targeting big GT's so dont need something heavy duty.

Thanks very much... tight lines

Mate, what is your price range specifically - then we can suggest the best rods we know of in that price range.

If it's a general spin outfit loaded with 30lb braid, the Snapper Raider or Nitro will do it....
Problem is keeping the big fellows away from your poppers at times  ;D
Most guys on this site are using fairly heavy to mega heavy braid to deal with the largest GT's they can find...for fish to 8 or 9kg and in your budget, these two will do it...anything else will cost more...

Cheers

Aaron.
