Peter: Well the wind was definitely up today compared to yesterday which
made fishing outside the reef a little uncomfortable, there was still plenty of places to fish though. In the morning we started off in some likely looking blue holes. We had limited time to fish them as the tide was dropping quickly unfortunately we didn't manage to get one. The guys in the boat were keen to try a troll for the rest of the day, things were a little slow on that side of things as well. We did manage to pick up some sharkey mackerel, gold spot trevalley and bludger trevalley which kept us amused. Just after lunch we went for a reef walk into 1 of the blue holes. My goodness I have never seen so many chinaman fish in my life there was a whole pack of them chasing our poppers in. We managed to get 1 nice 1 of around 7kg which made the walk all the more enjoyable all in all a good steady day's fishing!
Clinton: The morning was fairly gusty again so we decided to do some light tackle in a calm sheltered bay. We came across a good patch of red throat and managed to get 11 very nice size ones mixed in were 2 coral trout. When the tide got low we did some reef walking into some blue holes. First cast a pack of GTs came up like hungry dogs one grabbing the popper it was such an awesome fight being landbase we landed that fish of about 24kg. Second cast a skipping lure fished fast across the water got smashed this was a huge fish Ray got smoked coming off second losing his lure to that cracker GT. As the arvo grew longer the wind came right up we did some trolling and right at the end of the day got a nice GT on a stick bait. Considering the blusty conditions and the fish having a bit of lock jaw it was a great day.
Nick: This morning we started off in search of some GTs and we were finding it pretty hard to locate a few fish which seem to have shut down a little due to these waves of high pressure rolling across the Coral Sea. With that we have seen that the blue holes have been the place where most of the fish have been caught this week which is pretty interesting and is more thought for the discussion board. We on the other hand had a great day today getting stuck into sharkies, goldspots and other reef species on the light gear.
Reef walking onto the edges of a blue hole has got to be one of my new favourite things to do after seeing Kevin land his 25 kilo GT from the bricks. This really shows you how strong these fish are when you are stationary and quite amusing at times! Wind picked up somewhat today but we still had a great day.
Damon: We had another great day, starting with a couple of big GTs at the nest for Brad, and then some trolling produced a bunch of gold spot trevally and shark mackerel. A few hours of reef walking the blue holes resulted in lost lures to trout and red bass and a nice 25kg GT caught standing on the coral, very spectacular indeed. The rest of the arvo was spent chasing longtails and GTs with a few of each landed. All up we had a great day with a variety of fishing done and everyone keeping happy.
