Rotating Rod Gimbal

Hi All,

I just brought a Shimano Blue Rose with a 'Rotating Rod Gimbal', it spins allowing you to rotate your wrist and have the rod follow etc.

Has anyone experienced this type of design before? What are the advantages?

Hi Ben ,

I have seen the early Blue Rose rod with rotating gimbal but due to it was made in aluminium , the rod becomes heavy and was not favoured by jiggers who prefer light rod , I have not seen this Blue Rose rod in the shop for quite awhile . I don't know if the rotating gimbal makes the fight easier either .

Hi,

Adv is that the rod is able to handle sudden bursts of speed by the fish to the right or left of you without you turning your body towards the fish. Rod bend is maintained and hence a lower chance of losing the fish.

But as Jon mentioned, the downside is the increased weight of the rod.

Have you fished with it yet?

I haven't fished it yet - was thinking for getting the gimbal replaced with a solid version. Maybe it's worth keeping if it's an advantage?

One man's food is another's poison. You really have to fish with it.   
All a matter of preference.

I took the rod to the guys at Fish Head and they discovered there was a tiny star key you could screw in and lock the gimbal in place - so I can have it both ways

that's great.
The screw lock might come loose after a while. Bring along the star key screw driver when you are out on trips.
