Elusive Reef Lagoon Explorer 30 Aug 2011

Damon: We left the mothership in light winds with overcast skies, and our first cast of the day resulted in a GT hooked up and lost just near the boat, but a great start regardless. Then we got hammered by a strong wind change which lasted for 3 hrs with rain and howling wind. That sent us all looking for shelter, but by 11am, it was clear skies and light winds again, quite strange weather. We picked off a couple of nice 30-35kg fish along the way, and another 35kg specimen to Greg just after lunch in a shallow drain, awesome action. That was followed by a 40lb flowery cob that inhaled a popper. Richard had some airborne GTs bump heads before crashing his stickbait, and he had another 30kg fish in the boat. We ended the day with 9 GTs released, and a lot more seen and hooked up. An interesting day weather wise, and great fun on the fish in the arvo.

Clint: Leaving the mothership this morning it looked like a great day with light winds though someone turned the button on and we got hit pretty hard by some strong wind which made conditions tough. But just before the wind came we manage to hook a nice Gt of 25kg. Not much was happening during the winds but just as the tide started to run out we got a break in the weather and the fish came on the chew. We fished a ledge  that would not of been more that 500 meters long and boy was there some fish on it. We did five passes on the ledge saw about fifteen fish in total hooked up on nine and landed two not a very good success rate but great action on such a small ledge. During the day we picked off the odd GT here and there but the highlight was watching Roman getting monstered by a proper GT.This thing inhaled the popper and immedialty got the better of Roman he was in gaga land after that. To feel the sheer power of a massive GT is something that stays with you. Will get him tomorrow.
