stella sw5000 spool question
November 26, 2011, 08:17:52 AM
hey guys, does studio ocean mark make a spool  for extra line capacity on the SW5000? wanting to fill a SW5000 with PE3 and want around 250-300m on it. got a bad feeling it wont fit on the standard spool? pretty sure ill get that amount of PE2 tho. what line do you have on your own SW5000 and how many meters did ya get?
cheers. Dan

if you want a spool of that size dan, you will need to try to find yourself a 6000 spool. the problem is it is a JDM only product

you can get a full 300m of saltiga surf 30lb onto the 5000 spool and have room to spare, id say enough for another 50m at least, i didn't use backing but i will next time. I also got or 180m approx of 50lb fins which i removed. its a real dilemma because of the ferocious drag (for its size) of 29lbs. I think the saltiga 30lb is really a PE1.5 or maybe PE2.

My plan is to keep the 30lb on the 5000 spool for plastics fishing for snapper, rat kings and jewfish and even SB tuna, and then later on get a 6000 spool and load it with PE4 for light stick bait work on a saltiga 80TN for Kings, where more drag is required.

The 5000SW spool takes 230m of PE3.

They do. It's the 08sw6000a. They also have the 5000 size
Here's the link to the SOM website: http://www.studio-oceanmark.com/ltd/LTD_2011_01_sw.html
I'm contemplating one myself.

Another alternative would be to buy a Twinpower 6000 spool. Exactly the same as a Stella spool bar the finishing and name.

For example, I often use a Twinpower 12000 spool on a Stella 10000 (just about holds 200 metres of PE8) for GT fishing.

And likewise a Twinpower 12000 or 10000 spool on Stella 8000 PG - the line capacity of a 12000 spool turns the 8000 into a serious PE5 jigging reel.

Never thought of using the Twinpower 6000 spool. Thanks for that, Mark!

this is a really good idea also, never thought of this either!! only got just over 200m of varivas 10x10 PE5 on my 8000PG and cant say i was stoked about it. thanks for the heads up Mark!

Yep Dan, I think the PG 8000 Twinpower and Stella are both excellent jigging reels but there is just not enough line capacity for the type of jigging I do. Putting a Twinpower 12000 spool on gets you 350 metres of PE5 - perfect.
