That's a very big Bluefin!  They clearly do well in Hawaiian waters.

Went out yesterday afternoon and this morning for a few hours and the bite has been mediocre. The water has been dead calm and it looks like a lake, nice for sightseeing but kills our bite. We managed 5 strikes yesterday and 5 today and only 2 boated with a beast coming up this morning at 124cm on a Gamma 200. Finally got to see what the Wild violence can do on a respectable fish, the rod is a Hamma!. The Ulua put up a good fight and actually started to turn the boat when I laid into her :o because of the flat conditions. She got caught on some reef but was able to shake her off and land her. It was an awesome fight and when my buddy lip gaffed her and tried lifting her into the boat he bent the gaff open lol!

Boat is going to be down for maintenance so time to start pounding the shoreline!

BUMPING this thread with a report from this past Sunday.  Calm and hot conditions with a lot of hard work to get the fish to bite.  5 strikes with 1 fish boated.  Knot failure and tackle failure were causes of the losing 2 other fish.  Fish was caught on a lure that my buddy and I make, called LunchBox Lures.

Howzit guys,

Great thread going on here.  I've been enjoying your posts.

Shore plugging/jigging action has been decent this year.  It's a great relief from last year which really sucked for me.  I went for a short session yesterday while kicking it with my cousin who is visiting from Japan and ended up landing a nice omilu.

Yamaga Blanks Blue Sniper 95H, Stella 10000SW, PE5 Momoi Diamond Braid, 100 lb. Berkeley Big Game leader, Hammerhead/Smith A-Cup.

Thanks guys.

I am on Oahu and I don't get much ulua action, so I don't have much to post.... haha.  Also, if I do take a big hit, something usually goes wrong and I only have another "the one that got away" fishing tale to tell.
