Deeper spool for Saltiga Z 4500H.
June 10, 2012, 08:55:13 AM
Hey Guys.

I recently purchased a 4500H Saltiga Z. Not the current model. The reel I was originally after was a Stella 10000 but this thing was way too cheap to pass down. I understand that the 10000 has a larger spool capacity so I am curious if I can get a deeper after market spool for the 4500?

If so what's available? And where can I find one online? What brands, sizes, pros and cons? I'd assume a deeper spool means less max drag capacity as the surface area of the drag plates would be smaller?

Thanks for any info!

Troy, I hate to say this but I think the saving you have made may prove to be false economy. In the first instance, the reels are not comparable. The Stella 10000 has at least a 33% greater capacity in comparison and it still regarded by most of us to be too small. Most of us upgrade to an aftermarket spool with greater capacity. Second, the drag on a 4500 is only good for about 10 kgs.

I have a vague recollection that SOM made an aftermarket spool for the 4500 but I think capacity was the same.

If it swims; I want to catch it!

I'm getting an 18000 Stella next which will be used for Stickbaits on bigger beasts. The 4500 will be used for live baiting for Jew in the boat, casting lures for Jew off the rocks, beach casting for Tailor and Salmon and casting for Tuna and Mackerel in the boat. Not really expecting it to be a skull dragging reel.

The 10000 Stella was probably a better all round reel, hence why a bit more line on the 4500 would be nice. But what the 4500 won't catch, the 18000 should.
