Jigging Master 25000 Monster Spool

Has anybody used the Jigging Master 25000 Monster Spool and if so what do you think about the drag system vs Shimano's?

Hey Ben,

I have the 16k for here and the 25k primarily for deep jigging at home...I think they are fairly well made and the drag appears to work well...I disassembled mine and rebuilt using Cal's on the CF washers. The addition of Cal's will add some drag to the overall function at the lower settings but does make for a smoother mid/high range.

I personally brush the drag housing with Cal's - top and bottom just to provide some additional corrosion protection..the 25k is a big spool

Does anyone know how much 24kg mono that spool holds.
As I do a lot of pitch baiting for marlin with a 20k  and 15kg mono and if you want more than 1 or2 fish off a bait ball 24kg makes a difference.
Cant fish braid as fishing GFAA rules

Just got mine recently. Getting the drags greased.

Not sure how much mono it'll hold but it will hold fair bit of braid

Clem, how easy is the drag disassembly on a JM?  Simple like a SOM spool?

Hi Mark

It's a fairly simple (7 stack), I'll post photos later today to show dis-assembly...

I got a 25k spool as a spare for when the girl fishes. She has no need for heavy line so I loaded it up with 50lb. It took about 300-350m of 50lb mono plus another 475m of 50lb braid!

Oh, and +1 for what Clem said. Drag disassembly is pretty uncomplicated and is a great way to deist a couple of beers ;)

That's really helpful Clem and thank you very much.

Given your technical reel interests, you might like to see this thread if you have not already: http://www.gtpopping.com/forum/index.php?topic=2412.

Member Enoch Li posted a superb  run down on the SOM No Limits 16000 disassembly.  So helpful for a technical klutz like me. Using that thread, I now breakdown and clean my SOM spools after every 3rd use. The only difference for the newer SOM spools is that the Northbridge ring is removed by turning it - there are no screws.

Thanks again.

Thanks Mark

I have serviced a few SOM spools and more recently the Nature Boys spool... All of them are quite well made. I think it's worth coating the internal housings with a thin coat of Cal's or similar, just to assist with corrosion protection.

Thanks Clem, just picked u a Stella 10000 and will be adding a 16000 spool shortly for an upcoming Vanuatu trip. Have some Cal's already, so this will make it easy.
