Your thoughts guys,

Recently returned from a Nomad charter , awesome trip despite the shitty weather , only problems were the constantly soaked tackle bags and spare tackle  !!  i have tried Shimano - Rouge with the same problems in each . Has anyone out there any idea what is the best waterproof bag out there ?

If I have to carry absolutely everything for a whole trip aboard a boat I put it into a Hots roll top rucksack. For day trips I use a Shout Jigger bag although the larger Expedition bag is even better. They are not submersible, of course, but take a lot of spray and because the zipper is located around the top of the bag can be washed around the bottom of the boat when a green one comes over the side without a problem.

2nd the Shout Jigger Bag, and expedition bags! definitely a great option, you can buy additional sealing bags that then fit inside them (one company - everything designed to fit together) which can then keep things 100% dry.

Another option Jim would be the HPA range...various sizes etc, the popper roll is a great bit of kit. Many options of bags...sealed zippers etc.. quality is good also

I use the Shout Expedition bags too, they can be bulky but I've seen them taken as carry on luggage. I generally stuff it full and put it inside my duffel bag. If you're after something more lightweight, then the Daiwa waterproof bags are very good.

When I did the Tokara trip you normally leave your tackle bags at the back of the boat and with the rough sea the bags are basically underwater most of the time. I was using a Shimano Deck Bag which I enjoyed using but after day one the bag had about 15cm of water in the bottom. I've also tried the Shout bag, North Face and HPA bag but these have all leaked in one way or another as I think they are soft bags and good for traveling and storing but because they are soft they tend to lie in all different positions with the zip in the water or on the deck, also you don't always zip them 100% and lastly hooks, knives, etc tend to put a few holes in the bags.

I have now been trying and using the Shout Jigger "Box" which has been great and because the zip is off the deck and there is a small lip at the top of the box seems to work a charm. I have watered this box down to test on the boat and at home along with putting the box in the line of fire in some rough conditions with water coming onto the boat and no water inside yet. I also saw in Japan the guys using a box from Shimano which was bigger and worked well. One issue is traveling but if you have a big trucker roller bag it fits inside or use it for carry one luggage with all your reels (minus spools) etc.

I've tried and retired quite a few bags over the years trying to find the best balance between storage and something that really is waterproof. As Brandon mentioned my HPA failed miserably on a fairly damp trip to Bugatti. In fact we renamed the bag "the Sponge" after the second day of a couple of inches of water in it at the end of the day.

I haven't been able to find a "fishing" bag that really is both waterproof and the right kind of size I need. I've now moved to the bags that are purpose-made for kayakers in the hope these may work. I'll be trialing a bag made by Seal Line that looks the goods and hope it may be OK. However, again it is a "soft" bag, and as Nick has mentioned, these all do have their limitations. However, Seal Line and Ortleib do have some pretty good offerings in this line.

I thought it was really funny each afternoon when you would empty out the bag and the turn it upside down to pour out all the water while swearing like hell!

Plenty of bags/duffels out there made that "Seal" out the water, given, not all a purpose made for fishing.

I use a duffel made by Simms and simply stick my compartments and containers in there. It's not the cleanest solution as things can move around but I do know in rough seas that this is sealed 100%.

I started using one of these very recently and have been pleasantly surprised at how waterpoof it has been. Mind you, it would have all the weaknesses Nick stated earlier about soft bags.
