Thats Horrible to see,no matter what species they are doing it to but im sure a lot of GT anglers on this forum are not liking the GTs being slayed like that...

Some unpleasant sights there.  That sort of small scale commercial fishery where they kill absolutely everything is a common occurrence in Southern Oman and is definitely the least pleasant facet of visiting that part of the world.

Hi Nathan, Unfortunately scenes like this are quite common in Oman due to there still been an abundance of fish but over the years we have seen a decline in stocks in some places were there has been heavy commercial fishing. The main shark fishery is South of Salalah and is big business for the fisherman. I have also seen around 1,200 GTs netted in a day and the smallest I saw was 30kgs+. A very sad sight, unfortunately as sportsfisherman we don't like seeing this but it is the fishermans living but hopefully restrictions, limits, seasons and education will improve this into the future so we all can get what we want from the sea and still preserve it. But a tough job and will take a long time. We all have to try and do a small bit when we can or have the opportunity to do something.

Cheers,
Nick
