Topwater Caranx Ignobilis: Giant Trevally (GT) > Tackle & Techniques
Large plastics & GT
Cy and Kerrin Taylor:
Hi,
We were wondering if anyone has any experience with large plastics and Big GT?
Has anyone tried casting large plastics like Squidgy Bluewater Livies for GT?
A large soft plastic would be a great bait for the biggest GT we think.
Thanks,
CK
Peter Morris:
Hey Boys...
I have had some follows from big Fish in the Whitsundays on the 170mm squidgie slick rigs.
The slick rigs work amazingly well up in the Whitsundays on everything that swims I reckon.

Brandon Khoo:
I have no doubt that you can catch GTs on huge plastics although I nearly got suspended for suggesting minnows a while back so I don't know what will happen to me for suggesting plastics. :D
Something like the huge Bozo worms or Storm Wildeye Giant swimming shads would just have to work. You just got to find the right place for them.
Luke Wyrsta:
Yep, the Bluewater Livie range should work a treat.
Go up to 300mm and pre rigged too. We've jigged them for success with Dogtooth but I am yet to lob one in front of a GT instead of a popper. Do know of a 40kg GT taken on a Jelly Baby Livie.
As Pete mentioned, the Slick Rigs would be great too with 190/170mm sizes being the obvious choice for the bigger boys.
Cy and Kerrin Taylor:
Thanks for the info!
A 40kg GT would be fun on plastic!
Brandon, have you tried casting any large plastics around on Nomad?
Thanks,
CK
