Terminal Knot with 2 Contact Points

(1/9) > >>

Luke Wyrsta:
I have always used a 5-turn Uni knot for most terminal connections. Personally, it has never failed me, however, it can fatigue once the monofilament has been stretched. This is why testing knots and connections regularly is a wise move.

Does anyone have suggestions for a terminal connection knot that passes/seats neatly "TWICE" through the eye of the terminal/lure?

There's been some similar comments recently, however, I thought it would be best to start a new topic to see if we can determine if there is a solution.

Mark Harris:
Adhek has been using a double threaded Trilene knot for terminal connection for more years than he would probably like to admit. Just like this:

I find it awkward but I am not the world's most dextrous knot-tier.  I guess with practice it comes. He is on the water 150-200 days a year so he has had plenty of that! Better knot tiers than me could probably get to grips with this OK.

Initially I found tying a double threaded Uni (usually four turns) almost as awkward as the Trilene. But I have been practicising a lot and now use it regularly without any issues. I found the key problem to be the second thread jumping out of place when forming the knot, even with the most memory free and supple leader.  With practice you can get over this by applying the right amounts of pressure at the right moments.  With stiff leader I am not sure this knot would be possible.

Andy Rowe:
Good concept Luke. I have been thinking about this since it came up recently too.

I have used the improved clinch knot on GT rigs since 2006 and never had an issue with it, touch wood.

With your prompt Luke, Oman coming up in October again and a spare moment I just double looped my favorite knot through the terminal of a lure and it looks and feels very solid. Here is a photo and a link with diagram and video. I do 5 turns and put a fair bit of saliva on to lock it down. This is 170lb varivas btw, i usually use fisherman which is more supple.

Happy releasing.

How does it seat Mark?

Like you, I've also double threaded a Uni - it just doesn't sit/seat right for my liking though.

Thanks for that suggestion.

That seats quite nicely! Thanks for the suggestion!

I think the 2 contact point knot is what I would probably move towards for ALL my fishing applications. Makes sense.
