Topwater Caranx Ignobilis: Giant Trevally (GT) > Tackle & Techniques
Terminal Knot with 2 Contact Points
Andy Rowe:
Mark, the knot in your link is very similar to the improved clinch. The only difference your knot goes through a loop created by the double, i snug my double insertion to terminal down tight and put it through the gap in the legs as in the video.
I do need to test this new method though.
Funny Luke, I picked up my initial GT fishing techniques from an article in an old fishing mag from 2006 or 7, the story and pictures were taken on the French NC boys boat, I have a funny feeling you may have been photographed in the story as well, the magazine is long lost. I remember them recommending tackle and this knot which included the first Ian Miller 7'6" bluewater T curve 15-24kg.. ;D. The rod took so long to order from Aussie that I had already located Japanese rods in the interim and it have never been used. :-[
Mark Harris:
Luke, the Trilene when tied properly sits really nicely. As I said, unfortunately shovel hands here can't get it quite right. I wish I was seeing Adhek imminently and I would then take a pic for you.
On the double thread uni, I think I know what you mean as it does not sit as nicely/neatly as the standard uni. I do get it to grip and bite well though and I think it is a very secure connection. It was Ed Nicholas who put me onto tying a uni this way.
Andy, yep very similar for sure. Yours sits beautifully as does the Trilene if you can tie it. I am going to practice the version you posted.
Sami Ghandour:
I use the clinch knot at all time for GT & Tuna fishing and it never failed me,
you can get away with the double if you are using 150lb mono or less but for GT fishing i personally use 300lb shot leader and i can only get 1 round, so far so good and i don't think i will change this set up.
Brandon Khoo:
This is a great thread - going to try all of these.
I have tried the uni with the double loop before but it just won't sit properly for me
Luke Wyrsta:
I am going to tie both and see what is easier to put into the memory bank :)
