Buyer beware. Nothing but failures on the SOM spools I've seen in the flesh, and I've seen a lot!

Wah that's bad...I'm aiming for a spare spool, what do you think of Yumeya spools?

There's been enough captures out there to know they work, well most of them. However, I personally would not buy one! Busted, rusted and failure is what I have seen and that's enough for me not to use that product.

Yumeya is a specialist aftermarket arm of Shimano and the quality is generally very good. Never had an issue with a Yumeya product however, I do find the protective coating on the new stock spools to be disappointing. I hope they rectify this.

You do hear some mixed reports on the SOM No Limits.

I guess personal experience guides most of us. I have had 3 x SOM No Limits 16000 and a 20000 for some years now and never had an issue (apart from once when water got into the drag stack - the drag system does not like water!). But as Luke says I do know of others who have had some issues.

I've seen many failures to the SOM as well, especially under heavy drag, i found no reason to replace an original Shimano spool to gain line capacity and loose smoothness over it, not to forget that the original Shimano spool design is the ultimate for casting.

When I think that  there has been much criticism concerning the new Shimano, I realize that these criticisms were not based  :(  Is not Sami  ;)
