Gear for trip to Nusa island, Papua New Guinea
September 12, 2014, 06:21:35 PM
G'day guys,
I've been furiously reading the forum and trying to absorb as much information as possible but I have some queries I am hoping you guys can help me with.
I'm heading to Nusa Island Retreat in Papua New Guinea in November and am looking to do some fishing while I'm there. Their website claims they get trevally amongst others (http://www.nusaislandretreat.com.pg/fishing.htm) and google earth seems to show some promising reefy areas. I haven't ever popped for GTs before but I am keen to give it a crack. Whilst I realise it's not the ideal setup I do have the following setup.
Shimano T Curve Travel 763 heavy 15-24kg  suits lures 50g-200g
Fin Nor Lethal 100 with 80lb braid
Obviously there are better rods and reels available but could I get away with this setup.

Second question. What selection of lures should I take. I was thinking a handful of poppers such as halco roostas and river to sea bubble pops in the largest sizes (is it worth taking any smaller sizes), a few large bibbed minnows for trolling, a few halco giant tremblers, maybe something like this (http://www.meltontackle.com/products/williamson-tuna-catcher-kit.html). Then maybe some jigs or soft plastics (7inch jerk shads).

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.
Ryan

How'd you go with that setup? I've been looking at getting a three piece travel rod, I imagine that reel didn't cast and retrieve too well.
