Ocean Active Halaniyat 2015!
Cameron Mundy:
I arrived on the Island yesterday afternoon with Henk, Phil and Peter ready to open the books on the 2015 Halaniyat Season, The sea was gorgeous with the water conditions looking great. The sea is a nice clean green with the water Temperature hovering around 24 degrees. The fore cast for the following day was looking very shaky and with Ocean active currently running trips in three different locations along the Oman coastline it was easy to get an idea of what the weather was up to with live reports from all the Captains.
The following morning look like it would be a bust so we hit the water a day early to wet a line and make up for the time we thought we would lose. Henk had a fair size GT take a swipe at his Skipjack popper but the rest of the action was on the light tackle with Peter the least experienced of the group landing the two great spangled emperors. Today we headed out in the afternoon after a morning spinning from the shore in the lee of the island. The worst of the wind was gone so we made the run out to the grounds and began fishing, the GT's where out to play but we battled to stay connected and didn't boat any. They seemed to enjoy picking on Peter the most it was a bit frustrating but we are making a few adjustments and ready for tomorrow.
Cameron Mundy:
Between charters at the moment which is pretty rare so the boys rolled up their sleeves and got to work servicing outboards and deep cleaning the boats and villa. The weather has improved vastly compared to the last couple of days so when we finished up we snuck out to fish the magic hour as the sun set behind the mainland in the distance. I manged to boat a reasonable fish on a borrowed rod with a 120 Ulua and a 14k loaded with 80# JB hollow.
According to the temperature warm water is on the way over the next couple of days so things can only get better from here on out!
Craig Maree:
Thanks for posting, how was the GT action on the first week, did the guys get any GT's on first charter?
Cameron Mundy:
We had a frustrating time with the GT's the guys fished 3 days raised around 10 fish with a few solid hook ups but we never boat a single one. The weather was rough most of the trip which brings on a good bite but the hits tend to be very messy and it makes for tough fishing.
Craig Maree:
Thanks Cameron, hunting Buffaloes is not meant to be easy.
I am sure soon you will get some monsters on the deck.
Tight lines.
