Dampier 2015 images
December 23, 2015, 10:13:21 PM
Hi All,

As I start a new beginning in another part of Australia I'm looking back at the amazing action we have experienced in the place where my GT fishing addiction was born.
The Dampier Archipelago has been my backyard for the last 3 years and will miss it dearly but lucky for me I will be returning every few months for work with the odd fishing trip included.
The pics below are the better images of what's been a stella year for topwater action with the last few months being truly amazing.
Plenty of 15-30kg GT's and few larger brutes have been crunching poppers on the western side of the Archipelago. We've also had great mackerel action and some large longtail tuna turned up for a few weeks to mix it up a bit.
Dampier remains a true gem with no charter operations and a well-managed fishery with very little pressure from local anglers who mostly prefer chasing the deep water emperor and coral trout.
The gear used was mostly PE8-10

Rods:
Ripple Fisher Ultimo, Powerfight, reversal and final spirit
Temple reef reefer 711 and GT78-12
Fisherman
FCL UCB-81 Extreme MH
Yamaga
Carpenter

Reels:
Stella's in most sizes
Daiwa dogfight and Saltigas

Lures:
West Coast Poppers
ReefsEDGE
Patriot Design
BCS custom baits
FCL Labo
ASWB
Feed Pins
and many more

Line:
JB Hollow and solid
Varivas

Terminals:
We tried just about everything on the market

Enjoy,

Jason.

Some amazing fish there, must be great having them in your back yard where you can take them on with your own boat and gear. whats with the Golden mackerel?

That's a shark Mackerel Cameron, only grow to about 10kg but plentiful and put on a reasonable show.

I wish we didnt have charter operators down here in exmouth. :(  Might have to move back up to K-town.   Had some of my most memorable days up there in the early 2000"s  .  A lot of casts between fish down Exy way these days.

Awesome photos mate!
I currently have a job running in the Pilbara and have been taking the boat along to check out new places each time.
Was going to try the mackerel islands next but I think this post has just changed my mind.
Any info you could give for a few days fishing up there?
Time of year?
Size lures?
Put us in the ballpark of where to throw some lures? (Not asking for your spots.
Thanks, Garth

Short answer yes, minimum is PE8 if you don't want to loose to much tackle.
