Brandon Khoo:
I've caught a red emperor on a stickbait before - I was shocked!
I thought it was a red bass until it was on the surface
Those maori seaperches are gorgeous. I've only ever seen one before.

It is a Maori Seaperch, very good eating. I think it all depends on the habitat the fish live in Zac, if our Red Emperor lived in water 3-15m deep I think we would get them on poppers too.

is it still bloody blowing up there, Steve?!! ???
--- Quote from: Stephen on October 17, 2008, 07:32:39 AM ---Nice one Pete, good to see you've got onto some decent fishing. That's a great Maori Seaperch. Like Zac said, they're in the same family as Red Emperor (Lutjunid) but that's also the same family as Jacks and Red Bass so not that surprising that they'll hit a popper.
I haven't thrown a popper in months with the constant wind up here. Surely it can't go on forever!

yeah Brandon, I reckon this has been the worst year I've seen in Cairns for wind. No sign of it letting up either. Absolutely atrocious. I haven't fished for GT's since June!
I've got a few days off shortly so going to head north for some Barra action instead.
Angus Hulme:
Hey Pete, as I said on another forum......great fish, great pics, great report. ;)
However, some questions I forgot to ask were:
did you take or use any stickbaits on this trip, or was it all poppers like Cuberas and Halco Haymakers? Also, how many lure losses? ;)
Cheers
Angus
