Went to recon some land based popping ledges in the Northern Territory. Found what for me was about as good as it gets off the shore here. Most fish were aound 8-10 kg, some 12. We were undergunned when it came to the odd horse, will be heading back with some heavier gear next time. Some of the fish we estimated at 20-25 kgs, a couple of which almost made it onto the rocks. Ahh well, something to look forward to next time. Spannish mackeral and Barracuda were all over the poppers and stick baits, as well as some hungry little longtail tuna smashing lures half as big as they were. By day three tackle was running low so improvisation became nececary. Removing the bibs from out x-wraps proved to be a winner, with the resulting little stick-bait coming out one of the most successful lures. Lots more pics to come as the guys I was with had much better camera's than I. The buggers still have another week out there, jeez it was hard to get on the plane and come back to work. Hope you enjoy the pics

Thanks for your words of encouragement guys,
the rod is a Daiwa Monster Mesh, 8'3" rated to about 11 or 12 kgs of drag.
Great stick, only got to really bend it on the bigguns that made fools of us.
I prefer a rod with a faster action off the banks when sticking it to a big fish. I have a hastings URS86XH which would be my fav but being a 1 peice it's no good when flying.

Hi Pete, this is about the only place I get called my real name these days!
Your the second person to pull me up on the reel in the puddle, it's not all in, just the handle, experimenting with shots.

When you go back, do some barra fishing too.
Its first class barra fishing territory.
But look out for the salties in the estuaries, there are plenty of them.
