i would defernetley check out the hotts wei world if you where willing to go the extra$$$
I have personley never fished them (ive got a jigwrex which is good value for the price)but when you pick one up they feel so light and you would never think you could fish 80lb----untill you load it up

Hi Andy,

My wife Marg fishes a Wei World 52XH, I fish a Smiths AMJ S52EX, both matched with Stella 20000FA loaded with PE8 (Tufline XP 80 test).

Both rods will comfortably handle jigs of 200-400gms and there is probably room for more at the top end. The Wei World is lighter than the Smiths (which is light itself) but it has plenty of fighting power - Marg hauled in an 80 pound shark on hers and had a 15 minute fight with what we assume was a big Dogtooth (hook pulled free). She had the rod bent into the butt for long periods in both these fights - and the rod took it.

I don't see why there should be any problem using smaller, lighter reels with either of these rods, 'cause the rods themselves are so light anyway.

If you haven't already got one, I strongly advise you to keep one for yourself.

However, you will fall in love all over again if you ever get your hands on a Wei World. Both Dave and I have Smiths - and we still both covet Marg's Wei World.

Nah mate this was in tropical waters off the north-west coast. Unfortunately we didn't see the culprit as he was reefed

I'm quite amazed by these super light but powerful rods that make 1 rod versatile rod for a broad range of PE applications.

Does anybody have any comments about the Wei World 48XXH as a rod that will be suitable for the 10K and 20K stellas from PE5 to 8?

I've not fished the Wei World, but I have done a bunch of research on it as I was after one for a long time.... to me they areone of the sexiest looking rods I've seen.. I think its the combination of the split rear grip and the rods lightness....

I think these rods will handle the 10K and 20K and PE 5 - 8 with no problem whatsoever... its what they are designed for I believe.... And despite these rods lightness, they are built to handle incredible pressure....

I think the beauty of these rods is that one can fish an 8000 comfortably and right up to the 20 000 too..... and handle anything from 5 to 8 PE.... much like the Smiths...

I still can't getover how light they can make these rods and how tough and strong they are....

I still see a Wei World 48XXH in my future at some point...
Cause if it can handle fish like these, I'm pretty sure it can handle anything I'm gonna encounter....

The two Wei World - 52XH & 48XXH - are both rated to handle lines up to PE8 and both will fish nicely with 10000 or 20000 Stellas. Aside from length (5' 2" and 4' 8") the only difference in spec between the two rods is that the 52XH spec suggests jigs up to 420gms and the 48XXH spec suggests jigs up to 500gms. Anglers on other forums who have used both rods seem to suggest that they are similar in butt end power - so it maybe comes down to the length of rod you are most comfortable using.

Your right that rod does look so cool, and it 'walks the walk' too.

Yep I'm starting to visualize my reels slung under one as well .

Another member commented to me that these rods were built to be fished all day in difficult slow-bite conditions, but the lightness of the rod does not appear to be affecting the power.

For a novice jigger (me), who wants to do a bit of jigging to break up popping sessions this rod is moving to the front of the pack, because of it's user friendliness and versatility.

Well if you go for the 48XXH you have 6" less to hide!!

Hey mate, I have both a Wei World 52XH and a Smith AMJ 56M (Spin)

I have used both with my Stella 8000FA and 20000FA. The 20000 goes very comfortably on both rods. For me the 8000 goes better on the Smith, even though the Wei World is lighter, but it goes pretty sweet on both.

I think it would be hard to fault either of these rods for your chosen application, they are great to use. If you are only going to use PE5-6 the Smith will do the job for sure. If you are regularly going to use 300gm jigs though I would probably go the Hots as 300gm is definately the limit for that Smith rod, it can work them but the Hots will feel more comfortable working that weight a lot. The Smith is gun at 200-280gm jigs.

Some mates have the 52EX and whilst it is a sweet rod I would take my Wei World over it every time, so if you are choosing between those models that is my recommendation

Thanks very much for the input, appreciate your comments, the hot's looks to be very versatile. Is the Hots ok with lighter jigs in the 200-300gm range as well?

Just have to sell some gear and then decide whether it will be the 48 or the 52.
