120 to 140 Gamma and PE6 is a perfect combination for the 83/32, Peter
If it swims; I want to catch it!

The 83/32 on PE6 will also send the lighter 100gm BF and 105gm gamma very far. I was able to cast to places i had not been since I sold my LR88. The rod has enough power and will happily subdue 40kg size models quite well.

Sorry Peter I was off line a few days. Question seems answered and if you are looking at PE6 rod, you will love this rod. ;) As Andy says it has plenty of power as PE6 rod.

ok how about say the EP 85/36?

compared to the 82 weight is almost similar.

would the 85 be able to comfortably handle 180g stickbaits in terms of casting?

If you are thinking to use 180g stickbait, I think you better look for TBL80/40.

Hi Peter, 120gm on 83/32 yes also very nice, the 140gm I use this on the 80/40, did not try on the 83/32.

I need some advise as to which Carpenter rod to look at for big stickaits  ie 160 -250 gr . I really enjoy stickbaiting here in Nz  and have not fished for GTs but want to get set up to tackle them . Would like stickbaits to be my first lure to go to , and was thinking along the lines of a TBL or EP ?

TBL80/40 or EP86/40, 250gm is a lot of stick bait for these rods, too much i think, may have to look at a specific rod for >230gm though.

I can keep the lure weight down a bit !! But would be good to use those 160g & 200gr gammas .Orions .Rely like to know how the TBL compares with the BLC 80/40 ; I would guess that the BLC has a softer tip and would fold away more through the middle than the TBL.
The EP 86/40 looks very interesting and probably a very nice casting rod .
I think for me both of these rods have good strength but how pleasant is the TBL to cast . part of the equation on what I want from a rod.

You can stretch a bit over 200 on TBL 80/40.

I think MH series will probably handles Gamma 250 most comfortablly in current range.

Cheers.

For me the 2 tbl's (83/32 and 80/40) are great casting rods, can't comment on the BLC80/40. I generally avoid the upper lure weight reccomendations for carpenter rods. Tak is right on with the MH series for the mega gamma's though.
