   I used a smaller sized one of these on Sunday chasing Northern blues, they need to be worked fairly slow and to be honest I don't think we will be be buying any more.  They really only have the action of a glorified spoon or slice type lure except that they can't be worked fast enough to get reaction strikes. I used it for 20 odd casts for nil result.  Probably better suited to Barra.... I have no doubt they will catch fish but I think there are far better (and cheaper!) lures for the applications it is aimed at.  I think it may be a productive lure on Mooching Tuna but time will tell.

Sam Owen had that lure dancing at Bugatti and he got heaps of strikes on it. I'm not quite sure how he was working it but boy, it sure attracted the fish. I think he did manage to nail a longtail on one as well.

I could give it a go, I don't pour lead but could use wood 

I have some old lure blanks lying around I could "Frankenstein" one and see what happens... How big Brandon? I have a 265mm long blank which I drilled a swivel hole in the wrong place  that I could use...

Sam, the problem with the Waxwing is that it's design is such that it works with just one hook point. For a stickbait for a GT, you need two hook points. Also, those characteristic wings would likely get destroyed by a GT. You need to get enough weight into it for it to sink. I personally think that a moulded lure would work better for something like this.

Agreed, I also think a resin bait would be the "go" type of method...

I wouldn't use flimsy plastic wings that are designed to break  I was thinking a metal similar to what you would use for a bibbed/lipped swimmer. I have multiple species of timber to use, you could easily make a sinking bait for this application..

Seems a lot of work and rather weird, but I am intrigued by what could be... I will make a small prototype ( Will this see me in court? I don't want to take on Shimano  )

The wing/s give it the action and stop the jig from rolling out (spinning) on the retrieve.
