I would say an EP will fit those requirements well, although I have not used poppers bigger than 125 grams with my 82/38 (it always goes out as a stick bait rod, so I just have not used it much for poppers). It will handle bigger than that I am sure but I feel big-faced 160 gram chuggers would be pushing it.

A CV 79/0 would probably fit the bill even better but it is shorter than you want.

A CV79/40 might saturate a bit too much with 160g poppers... and it is a little shorter than what you're after, like Mark said. Perhaps a MH80H might be suitable?

Much as I love the rod, MH80H with PE6?  Bit under-gunned, no?

DJ83MH would fit the bill.... can't think why I did not say that first time!

If landbased fishing is included in the equation , EP85/36 is a better choise but DJ83MH is a good choise too . On the subject of lure weight , please remember to add the weights of the splitrings + hooks which can add some 30 gr. in extreme case .

Was more referring to the part where he said, "later on getting SOM NL 16000 spool with pe8"...

DJ83MH, don't know why I didn't think of that the first time!

Kriss ,

EP85/36 is a more modern designed rod than DJ83MH , it's longer and lighter . DJ83MH is a heavier rated rod ( PE 6~10 ) and more parabolic in it's action but still very popular . Both are good choises for long casting distance but I personally prefer EP85/36 because it's extra 2" length and slightly lighter ( below 400 gr. ) .

Thanks Mick for the recommendation,

The Endless Passion85/36 / Zenaq 83-7 rods were the first that jumped to my mind as well. The FCL 81EXT is light enough in the hand to be possibility as well.

Kriss, we have a pretty large selection in stock, more than happy to organise a casting session at Victoria Point to see which works best for you on the water. Otherwise, we're open right up to Christmas Eve

You can call us on 3207 9965 if you would like to chat about the rods

Cheers

Duncan
