I had written up a massive blow-by-blow report for this trip but I somehow managed to lose it despite having it backed up and saved to my hard drive. Anyway, I'm not really in the mood to re-do 3 hours of work. Many thanks to Ed, Angela and the rest of No Boundaries for a truly memorable trip. Hope you enjoy the pics  8)

Oh I will add that the biggest fish of the week was caught on the final day by the other group fishing about 150m away from us. It was estimated around 65kg+. A true fish of a lifetime, well done boys.

Great stuff Jay. I can see you are really enjoying the new camera.

Those GTs are just immense. We are seeing so many pictures of big Geets coming out of Oman, I think folks are now almost expecting it.

Nice to see a West Coast Delambre doing the business on at least one of those GTs.

I see you did well with AJs on jig. Were any still hanging around in the topwater?

Very well done and congratulations to all those involved.

Andy is dead right - it looks very calm!

It's an incredible fishery, Mark. Whilst we certainly didn't get cricket score catches, our average for the trip (prepares for flaming  :-[ ) from rough estimates would have been close to the 50kg mark. There was only one GT caught below 40kg.

Would have been nice to find some of the bigger AJ's but the small ones still put up a really nice account for themselves on PE5 jigging gear. We didn't see any on top water.

The weather was absolutely incredible, it would not have blown more than 10 knots all week. At some points we were actually wishing for some wind as the calm conditions made it incredibly hot. We got some temporary releif when moving between spots but it was short lived so we had to resort to constant soakings with the deck wash.

Awesome pics Jay & thanks for sharing. Nightmate about loosing your report dude but something about the triple hook up (2 x50's & 1 x40!) and GT feeding frenzy has to be mentioned! I have added some more pics of the past few weeks to this report instead of starting yet another thread about S.Oman  :-X

Couldn't agree more with Mark's comments about everyone expecting these fish now, some guests arrive and wonder why they dont have a 50kg in the boat with in a few hours. There are many destinations where you can go and have a high number of Geets around the 20-30kg mark each day .. Oman is not one of these places. If however you put the time in and the fish are playing game the reward is high as you have seen but dont come here under the illusion all we catch their monster  8)

I have fished my Stella 10k/SOM 16k spool the last few weeks and landed 4 +/- the 50kg mark so far on this set up .. reel does not seem to have any issue fighting the fish but i do notice a difference in retrieve speed which knocks out my rhythm a little. A video here of a great day when 3 50+ landed on this set up and few more lost :(

Another note of worth is mentioning the Uni knot when using fisherman/varivas leader. I love these brands of leader as they are so soft/supple but we have lost 4 or 5 fish so far this season at the uni knot. Have a look at the loop that goes through your swivel when you tighten the knot heavily and you will notice that it is so soft it actually flattens out .. this is where it has broken on some large fish/locked drags which is why we now make sure all uni's are double looped through the swivel, not one lost when tied like this. Only take note if really fishing for monster fish because never had the problem with anything else .. the margin for error when hooking 50KG+ GTs is so high!

All the No Boundaries crew are getting stuck into Mo'vember and there are some dirty porno tash's going around the lodges .. think i am never going to win this one against Kenyan guide Yassir who is sporting a massive handle bar. Once again the challenge of us being permanent residents of S.Oman has raised its ugly head with a dental emergency for my wife Angela and we are now over 300km away from the lodges in Salalah getting her fixed. Happy for the sacrifice of convenience though as all our crew/guides fish these waters daily for the full season offering a real familiarity with the area.

Enjoy the pics n video .. loads more on www.facebook.com/noboundariesoman

Absolutely, that triple hookup was something special  ;) when I fly home from work and I have a bit more time/motivation I'll re-write a full report and add it to the original post for those who are interested.

He had a BIG head start though, don't forget about that. Probably should have made him shave the lot off  ;D

Awesome Jay! Yet again an awesome reminder of what a unique and premier fishery Hallaniyat is! Long may it continue :)

Re the uni knot - I would swap to a clinch or nail knot that doesn't constrict under pressure :0 I have after Dave Foyle pointed out the error of my ways - fortunately I haven't lost a gt to it ..

Oh and looks like I am getting some Sunline shirts - had a word with our uk distri and reckons we can get something similar - any idea on the sizes re far eastern v western?

Hey Ed and Alex,

Just on the uni knot, if the diameter of the swivel eye is noticeably smaller than that of your leader, this is a well known problem - the swivel eye can quite easily cut mono leader.

It's another reason (if one were needed!) to use only NT swivels which have big diameter wire on the eye you tie the knot to.

If you are nervous about it or have narrow-wired swivel eyes, you can use use a thimble which completely protects the line, and still tie a standard uni knot.  Used to use these a lot when heavy jigging, and they are vital if you are tying mono leader to a ball bearing swivel which tend to have narrow gauge wire for the eyes.

Ed,

Some stonking fish yet again.... it just unreal how many big GTs there are around the islands and apparently no smalll ones!

Keep it up mate and just make sure Yassir loses the 70s Mexican pornstar 'tache :) :)

Mark - What size NT? 2/0 or 1/0?
