Need help with my first popper
December 06, 2008, 05:09:12 AM
I have only conventional reels at present and this one will wear a 20KSW Stella.

I have a CTS heavy popping rod, 2 piece, 8 foot that can deadlift 55 lbs. I will not consider a plastic reel seat.

I need help primarily with guide selections ICMNSG or whatevers. Also should I consider the Fuji New Concept spacing and sizing or stay conventional. What do World class surfcasters use?

I need maximum casting distance for 5-8 ozs for large Tuna.

Any help will be appreciated

Hi Randall,

I'm just trying to understand a bit more about how you want to build your rod.

5-8 oz seems rather large for tuna lures in general?

For me, ICMNSG would be a preference for guide selection unless your blank can fit the titanium frames (not everyone likes these but boy are they light!).
