Just looking for anyones opinion on the best/ most recommended PR bobbin knotter?

i've been looking at the Shout knotters and wondering if the PR-K2 is worth looking into?

I've only used the Shout bobbin so can't make any comparisons....but it seems to do the job well to me.

Built very well too - as it should be at that price !

I use one of the normal bobbins and its fine. No issues, well, other than making sure that I have enough line around the bobbin so that it doesnt fly off across the room.

If you are looking for the best PR knot bobbin on the market (and you didn't mention price), then the Shout is the best bobbin knotter. It simply has a level of precision you don't find on the more traditional bobbins.

Shout offerings are:

• - BN-60 Shout Bobbin Knotter (60g, the heavy version for lines PE 2.0- PE 8.0, http://fishhead.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=67&products_id=2232). Currently using this tool for PR between Jerry Brown 100lb solid to Shogun 200lb leader.
• - BN-76 Shout Bobbin Knotter Light (40g, for lines PE 0.8- PE 2.0 http://fishhead.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=67&products_id=2233).
• - 800BK Shout Bobbin Knotter II (They have a removable weight so that they can act as either 40g or 60g tool. http://www.shout-net.com/english/bobin/bobin2/bobin2.html) I probably would have got one of these if I had known they existed, however I'm unsure on their availability in Oz at present.

I haven't used any other Bobbin Knotter's however being new to the knot - I have seen half a dozen videos on the net that show their operation and they are simple and effective. I think the advantage of the Shout tools is that the have the clutch to allow you to fine tune the tightness of the backwards wrap section of the PR knot. But in saying that, wrapping the braid around the arms of a standard Bobbin Knotter xx times also acts as a clutch...

They are extremely well made; greased, oiled and ready to use out of the box...

I think I prefer the Shout one, the SOM one looks like it's only designed for lighter line?

I'm still learning to tie the PR knot, but I don't understand how the SOM knotter would apply enough tension to the wraps. I was led to believe that with a normal bobbin there is supposed to be enough tension to keep the tip right up against the leader ensuring the wraps are nice and 'toight!'

I don't think the SOM tool is a PR knot bobbin. In fact, it is designed to tie a knot I'm sort of familiar with but has a different name to what they use. I can't remember what it is.

Also, as Jay points out, it seems to have been designed for light lines.

There is also another bobbin which I use that has the friction/drag adjustment dial on it, will find out the name of the tool when I get home, but retailing for around $40-50, well worth the money. I'm sure some of the fly tying guys on the forum might know the bobbin I'm refering to.

Brandon, if you count foul hooked fish, then yes I have.. Got a measley bait fish if u could call it that which went no more than 3mm long foul hooked whilst blind casting a Jackall at one of those freshwater payponds in KL. That would be the smallest trout I've jigged up.

The bobbin which I'm refering to is called 'RITE' made in the USA. That's all I can findarked on it. Should be available at most fly fishing specific  shops.

Got a trout about the size of my pinky on a bait jig once... but it's debatable whether that's a jig or not
