DJ83MH vs GT82LC

Good day

I've been trying to explore more and more about GT fishing, I've been doing nothing in the last few days other than comparing rods (you may notice from the no. of posts and topics)

I've seen how favorable the Carpenter DJ83MH is in the GT community, being discontinues and with such demand, it is extremely difficult to get one

I've been looking for something close in specs to this great all-rounder rod,
so the Ripple Fisher GT82 LC appeared to be comparable
at least in terms of length, power (I guess the Ripple is slightly less powerfull)

I do appreciate if someone can highlight the difference between the two
The suitable popper/sticbait minimum/maximum/sweet spot
How easy is it to cast them all day?
Power and ease of use on medium fish

Mahmoud - the rods are not at all that similar at all. The DJ83MH is a multi-purpose GT rod that is somewhere in that PE8 to light PE10 range. it can handle poppers in that 150g to 160g range quite well. The 82LC is more a stickbait than popper rod and it has a reasonably soft tip in comparison to the DJ83MH. It's also a PE8 rod and I doubt it will work much more than a 120g to 130g popper.

The other thing I should emphasise is to place limited emphasis on what other people like. While other people may like that rod, you may find that it is not to your liking.

Unfortunately I don't have much chance here to try many rods
So what I'm doing is to make a list of some of the most suitable for my application (which gets more clear everyday) and then get people's opinion to shorten the list and see if I can hold them in hand before buying.

At least your experience help me know the real world performance and what to expect from the rod

I've seen many anglers here speaking highly of the endless passion especially the EP82/38 and the 85/36
A friend of mine highly recommends the 86/40 as well saying it will mostly be the one rod I will not leave
Saying he can even get very nice action of Baby Runboh with it , and I guess it can work medium cupped poppers to 150gm or so as from what I understand the 82/38 can work 125gm poppers nicely

Which model do you think suits my application better

That was my original plan, to get a Monster Hunter 80H, and a light pe6 setup for stickbaits
But the problem is that the MH80H/pe10 will be an overkill for the fish here(rarely gets over 30kg), so I was preferring pe6-8, the coral viper seemed like a nice choice, but still it can't work CF GT# 150gm which will be my ceiling, I which there was something just between the CV 79/40 and the MH80H, DJ83MH fits this criteria to a great extent, but it is unobtainable

EP82/38 is good for chugger while EP86/40 is better for smaller chugger n stickbait but if you can source EP82/42 , then you have found the right rod for big chugger n big stickbait .

Hi Mahmoud, GT 79R is one my all time favorite rods. Although it is supposed to be all round rod,  it is really more a popper rod than stick bait rod (someone already mentioned that here).
Sweet spot is 120-160g poppers. Will handle craft bait GT3 (150g) just fine. It is sort of OK for bigger stick baits like Ulua 150 but not ideal.
At the end of the day both Carpenter & Ripple are both fantastic brands. Probably come down to personal preference and really finding the model that fits your need.

I had the impression that the EP86/40 will handle slightly bigger chuggers than the 82/38 as it is rated for heavier lure (230 vs. 190), but I guess the extra length really hurts the stiffness of the rod with chuggers

I like the idea of the 82/42, I think it can also work as double duty when we go after bluefin tuna, do you know what size chugger scan it handle?
If I can't find it I think I'll go with the CV79/40 o rthe EP82/38

EP 86/40 is a bit stiffer tipped than EP 82/38 IMO... but little in it.

The 82/38 and KLL 82/42 feel pretty much same to me tip wise but obviously a lot more down low power on the 82/42.

Regarding the two EP models, I understand your comment regarding nearly identical tips, but from the lure specs, I guess the 82/38 will max out with A Gamma 160, whereas the 82/42 might be able to work a Gamma 200?
