From Mega to Zilch current!??!??!?!?!?!?!?
October 20, 2008, 08:00:48 PM
Hi All,

Went to have a pop last Monday and the EAC was in effect!
Had a jig day with a group organised through the shop yesterday and fished north of the popping grounds.
Packed a bunch of 300-450gm jigs just in case the current was cracking.
It wasn't!
We fished out to 150m off Moreton Island and found very little current!
It made jigging easier, though the day was strangly quiet.
Sounder was stacked beyond belief, though finding biters wasn't easy.
I cracked the sh*ts and went into dogtooth mode to spark some interest.
Ended up hooking a 40ish KG Amberjack that powered off against 13kg of drag on two great runs, the third run I tightened the Stella's drag a full turn......16kg and it didn't stop until the 200Lb wind-on hit reef.....Oh well, at least I stayed connected for about 8 minutes.
I think the newbies realized why I chanted 'put your game face on!' whenever a big jig went over the side. You never know what is going to gobble it!
Had another big mother smack a jig violently only to miss the hook!
I dunno even what the jig is called....its made by FCLLABO and weighs 450gm.
Was the only thing to spark interest out of the larger fish.
Maybe it will be different next trip :)

Cheers

Aaron.

Aaron,

you are going to hate this but...........Ben and Andrew went out this morning and dropped a plastic over.             30kg+ GT

They kindly rubbed it in by sending the photo to us as soon as they got the fish in and topped it off by ringing to tell us all about it while still on the water.  They were coming back to get the popping gear but the wind really picked up and was ripping through the bay so they called it a day.

Talk to you tomorrow,

Janelle

Janelle,

Benji kindly phoned me up at 5.30pm to tell me how well the fishing was 'down south' today. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
It really had us mistified as to why the fishing was so shut down yesterday.
I mean, we were in PRIME spots with massive bait schools being coralled up by larger arches on the Furuno's colour screen, yet the fishing was just tough. Didn't matter if it was a jig, plastic or bay rubber jig.
The barometer was 1023.5. It was after the full moon, light E-SE winds and a truckload of activity on the sounder. Water temp was 21-22 degrees.
Bill & I couldn't explain it that's for sure!

Aaron.

Chris,
Yep, I see your point.
I wouldn't want to be called a 'blue wiggle' either.....next thing he will be wearing a 'sweater' thats draped over his shoulders and the sleeves knotted in front of him!!!!!!!!!!
With that sort of fashion sense, I'd rather remain fishless...or anonymous!

Gordon's come up good in his summer outfit in the Nov QFM mag, cotton fishing shirt and brimmed hat,  a true fashion statement but a bit rough around the edges :D

Luke,
I learned some time ago that if you hang it you have to learn how to wear it as well... and I'm not talking skivvies either.
It's all good... bring it on lads  ;D
