Gentlemen,
my name is Cameron. I am a West Aussie currently living in Shanghai. I live for fishing and family. I started fishing as soon as I could walk in the far North West, cutting ny teeth on Barra. I'm always looking for new ground and "the edge". I guess I got addicted to GT's in Exmouth in WA. If you don't know where that is, you need to find out. The Trevally of all types there are simply amazing. The North West has very little pressure and even less targeting of these species compared to global interest. Jigging is an obsession but nothing gets the blood pumping like watching a VW explode behind a popper. My other passion is Saltwater Fly Fishing. From tying to the take. I am happy to help with questions on the North Coast especially the Kimberley which will be recognised in the not to distant future as the place to go for Xtreme popping. It's the last Frontier. I look forward to reading about others techniques and expeditions. Tight lines, Cam

Hi Cam,

Can you tell us more about your Kimberley GT exploits? I can't say that I've known the Kimberley to be famous for big GT's but am willing to be educated....

Looking forward to hearing about it.

Luke

G'day Luke,
little more than Barra is talked about when discussing the Kimberley. So it's not famous for Gt's or even Gamefish my point exactly, but it will. There are a few charters and cruises that take people fishing. But not much more than bait soaking. One to look for is Reelteaser, Ross is switched on and produces good fish consistantly off the Kimberley Coast check him out. The Kimberley is wild, remote and expensive. There is no real pressure on gamefish along the coast. There are thousands of small islands, bays and rivers. All the recipes for large gamefish and more. I can't access Youtube, twitter, facebook etc because I'm in China so I can't download some clips. But Malcom Douglas for one had good footage of the Trevs that cruise out that way. Simply put there aren't many people with the equiptment or knowledge to land these fish up there (north of Broome). They talk about a freight train that spool thier ABu etc. It is truly spectacular country. Anything can happen when your out there. 9 metre tides, Crocs, sharks, sandflies, taipans well just about everything wants to kill you. So I guess this is why it's stayed pristine. I'll find some photos for you and put them up this arvo.

G'day all.
Darryl here, aka Daz. I was previously living in Brisbane & regularly chased small GT's on small poppers & light line. I also jigged on several occassions offshore from the Gold Coast, chasing AJ's.
I'm now located in Perth which offers amazing jigging for Samson Fish in the summer months. I was fortunate enough to go to Christmas Island (Shorefire Charters) in September & throw big poppers & stickbaits at big GT's and some enourmous yellowfin tuna. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect to any doggies. My goal for 2010 is to catch a doggy or two, or three. Fingers crossed.
Great site with a wealth of knowledge from plenty of people. I will endeavour to share my experiences & knowledge too.
Daz

Hey Guys,

Ive logged onto this forum a few times, and thought it time I joined, so I can see the pics posted!  Im a professional photographer living in Sydney, Oz.  I grew up in Coffs Harbour, fishing for flatie, mack tuna, northern blues, blue grouper, snapper, kings.. from the stones as a kid and in my old mans boat, and also used to paddle out to the islands off the coast of coffs on an old surf ski.

I mostly spin, with ultralight for pelagics, livebait, and pop.  Been making homemade poppers on my old mans lathe for years and used to popper fish with 15kg mono when I was a young fella....... yep, got blown away time after time. Ive caught many species on poppers, and love it!

Many trips to whitsundays popping as a kid, Solomon Islands, Cairns, Mission Beach, Cook Islands.  I travel for work a fair bit these days and always take my gear!  Almost all my rods are two peice these days.

After years of eating coral on the 15kg mona as a kid im loving the new gear available, and have a tokara 60, Xzoga jig rod and shimano 1800's with 80 and 113lb jigman.

Just gearing up at the mo for a trip to visit my sister in Mission Beach Qld for a months fishing.

Hi Guys,

Been a member for a short while now, but not got around to any formalities thus far..!

I am fairly new to the GT game - i currently am lucky enough to live/work in Madagascar, which truly has some great potential - trophy Gt's, and a lot more - far better recognosised by the French speaking world.! Caught a number of good GT's thus far, a nice dogtooth next on the target list..!

I was born / brought up in Zambia, so it has been freshwater fishing for most of my life - tigerfish, vundu catfish etc, but i am already hooked on the saltwater 'game'..!

GT popping is a great site - there is nothing like learning by 'doing', but gleaning information off a site such as this definitely helps out a lot..

Cheers, Marc.

Hi Guys,

Just joined the forum, I have to say this place is prett awsome.
I am located in Sydney and enojoy targeting Kingfish with live bait in the harbour and when the oportunity present I love hitting the offshore reefs for a bit of jigging for the kings, late last year I scored my PB King fish of 10kg whilst jigging.

Jigging is my favourit form of fishing for the past two years i have been heading to WA to jig Samson fish. I am currently looking into getting into popping for GT, with a possible trip planned later this year to hit X-mas island or Fiji with a friend.

If anyone is in Syd and want to catch up for a bit of jigging feel free to contact me, I don't own a boat personally but do know a good jigging charter.

Cheers,
Sha
