Hi All,
Went to have a pop last Monday and the EAC was in effect!
Had a jig day with a group organised through the shop yesterday and fished north of the popping grounds.
Packed a bunch of 300-450gm jigs just in case the current was cracking.
It wasn't!
We fished out to 150m off Moreton Island and found very little current!
It made jigging easier, though the day was strangly quiet.
Sounder was stacked beyond belief, though finding biters wasn't easy.
I cracked the sh*ts and went into dogtooth mode to spark some interest.
Ended up hooking a 40ish KG Amberjack that powered off against 13kg of drag on two great runs, the third run I tightened the Stella's drag a full turn......16kg and it didn't stop until the 200Lb wind-on hit reef.....Oh well, at least I stayed connected for about 8 minutes.
I think the newbies realized why I chanted 'put your game face on!' whenever a big jig went over the side. You never know what is going to gobble it!
Had another big mother smack a jig violently only to miss the hook!
I dunno even what the jig is called....its made by FCLLABO and weighs 450gm.
Was the only thing to spark interest out of the larger fish.
Maybe it will be different next trip
Cheers
Aaron.
