Wassup Mark T,

I live in Kona and keep an arsenal of GT gear in my truck everyday. Unfortunately this season has been the most pathetic year for GT fishing i can remember. I haven't had a strike in Kona from the rocks since mid October >:( :'(

Hopefully by May, the water temperature will come up a bit, and the baitfish will be showing up. Cold water temperatures completely kill the GT fishing here in Kona. Most of the fish go deep from Oct-March and wont be willing to hit a lure. Many of my charter boat friends say that the best way to catch them is on live skipjack tuna down at the bottom of 160m of water. The word around town is that a few fish were recently caught in the 40-42kg range from the shore, but they were fishing big slide baits on the bottom in 70m of water.

Once our temps come up, the GT fishing can get pretty good. A phenomenal day would be to get a total of 3 strikes, so not quite up to the standards of the rest of the GT world.

There are no charter boats that specialize in GT jigging and popping, mostly just big game fishing, but a few will take you jigging for AJ's. Captain Jeff Rogers will be your best bet to hook up with for a day of jigging.
I find that plugging for GT is more productive from the shoreline than it is on my boat. We just dont have very good structure and current lines for boat plugging. The depth of our water here is bittersweet because it gives you access to shoreline fish in very deep water, BUT our GT tend to go VERY deep for long periods of time. Both good and bad i guess...

Hi Jonathan,
That is a Carpenter WV80XH that i stripped down and did a little tweaking on. I kept the original guide spacing, but replaced the stripper guide with a higher frame and am getting better casting performance out of the rod. Also replaced the foregrip with some sticky cork tape.

That guy is a beast, especially for HI on a popper.  Nice work.

Andrew Miyashiro managed to get some sashimi off the east coast of Oahu with this spectacular catch from the shore, a small yellowfin tuna on the GTFC/Heru Ulua 90.

The kids are on Spring break but we managed to get a day in for some official GT FIGHT CLUB business. A quick afternoon session to keep us sane. First up Vinh Nguyen dropping the hamma with the PD fire vortex and the Lunchbox Kaboom, no prob.

Next up Ladd Yoshimura putting the brakes on with the Monster Hunter 79xh and the Lunchbox Tornado, feels good to boost!

We told him your the man if you can "shaka" with two hands 8)lol

Drive it like you stole it and boost it like you mean it!

Race Point 250, Hamma down

Catch um and Land um ;)

Carpenter Pandora made possible by Mr. Tak Otsuka and Brandon Khoo, we love um here in Hawaii Mahalo!

One more drop before we head in.....

No need to drive "Jus Scrap!"

game over...

Grab um Bassmaster Style! I get pumped fighting and landing my own fish nowadays...

Time to go home and head in...

Get it done son! my boy has a lot of work ahead of him  ;D

Aloha from GT Fight Club we'll catch you guys next month!  ;)

just noticed the logo on the back of the gt fight club t shirt with the hunting gt. That is the logo of Adhek lures, Bali. Did you get it from him, or just copy it?
Greetings

Howzit Simon,

My buddy put together some shirts last minute for a fishing expo we did a week or so ago. In the front he said it is a image of an angler bending on a fish and he put the Hawaiian Islands in the background. As for the back besides our font the lure is a Lunchbox Lure (local lure made in Hawaii that my buddies produce) with a breakaway rig on the tail that my buddy who made the shirt always rigs, as for the GT I have no idea where he got it but I will ask. Personally I have never seen the Adhek logo, but I guess our shirts are just like it so I will ask my friend not to make anymore and I will not show it in any pics.

I have my own logo being made as we speak and it isn't cheap :o. Should be done in a month or so. I apologize if it seemed like we copied Adhek the last thing I want is to be a copycat we have our own style here in Hawaii.

Aloha,

Charles

Howzit Sami,

Having some fun with the rods :)

No problems there.. it could be that you also were dealing with adhek lures as well as heru.
It is the chasing gt that is really reminding about the one on adheks shirts.. actually i think the only difference is the popper.
I find it really cool that you guys are doing so much work for the gt fishing in hawaii.. i almost think my girlfriend could convionce me to go there now :-)
Greetings
Simon
