Great shots Charles. The water looks amazing. Is false albacore same as Kawakawa?

My little sister has just finished her freshman year of college in New York, and has been living with me here in Kona for her summer break. A few days ago we flew over to Oahu for some shopping and dining. I asked her if she was interested in doing a quick session of GT fishing session, and to my surprise, she seemed into it!
Charlie Cintron thought it would be a cool first to have a girl catch a GT on his boat, and he was nice enough to take us out for a couple of hours early one morning. My sister and I, along with Vinh Ngyuen met up with Charlie at first light and launched the boat in hopes of getting my sister into her first GT.
Vinh set her up with a harness and fighting belt and we gave her a quick tutorial on how to fight a gt should one hook up! Our plan was for us boys to hook up a GT, assess it's size, and then hand it off to her if it seemed like it was 25kg or under. If a giant struck, we would deal with it ourselves instead of throwing her in the fire, haha!

Right off the bat, Vinh hooks into a perfect little guy about 10kg, but it comes off as he was passing the rod to her. A few minutes later i take  strike from another small GT and hand the rod to her. She fought this fish for a small bit, but unfortunately it came off also.
After that fish things went dead for a while until the wind picked up and we started to get a faster drift. In about 30m of water Charlie and i took a double strike form a pack of roaming deep water GTs.
I hooked into mine and passed it quickly off to my sister, while Charlie missed one only to have a big boy come up and grab his stickbait within a 2 second window. Again, his big strike ended quickly as the fish bit my 300mm stickbait right between the hooks, dammit!

My sister was hooked up well to hers though, and she handled it like a pro. It gave her a couple good scraps, but after a short fight she had landed her first GT. In my family, it is a requirement that you are able to adequately handle a fishing rod, and she proved herself worthy of it this day!!!

Here are a few pics from her first GT experience, and her first time on the ocean for that matter...

Little bit of action before work yesterday morning. Gotta get the fishing in now before the GT's take off to deep water for the wintertime! Another black Kona style GT, only caught one silver one in the past 2 years. This one was really dark.

Carpenter Pandora

In Hawaii we call this Moana Kali a very popular fish to eat.

Tax Collector

Caught this little jobfish trolling a Heru Ulua 150, funny stuff!

With the kids gone for the summer the wife and I did a lot of cruising around in the boat and of course I brought the popping gear, with the other half sunbathing I was able to find some new areas with a lot of potential. A beautiful Bluefin Trevally with my hometown in the background and a nice release shot that my wife took.

Heru Ulua 150

The boyz on Molokai Kawika and Bufo are always into some action when they get together and report the popping is picking up with some friendly rivalries going on.  Kawika with a bruiser on an afternoon run.

LunchBox Tornado

Carpenter Monster Hunter Extreme

Carpenter Pandora

Carpenter Blue Lagoon 80/40 and Heru Ulua 200

With the fishing good and some last minute cancelations I head out by myself and get some action while the kids are in school much to the dismay of my son. It was lots of fun to go head to head on the water myself and knock over a couple of bruisers, one of the fish ends up spinning the boat around while we fought it out having me laughing out there like a madman.

122cm with the Carpenter Pandora and Race Point 250

111cm with the Carpenter Pandora and Race Point 250

Last trip of the month Brian and I took a new friend out Aaron Arizo to pop from the boat for the first time. It turns into a grind out casting all day but he was able to get one on the very last drift. I think I was happier than he was but regardless of how long it took and dealing with the conditions he never gave up and had lots of fun and he went home with a fishing story.

Great post Charles, good to see you getting some, especially the young lad, I can't wait to get my boy out there, still only three years old though.

Cow job fish btw,  great when you strike a school of them and get the PE3 out they can be so aggressive and fun. Nice bull mahi too, looks like he had been in a few battles.

Keep it coming.
